PREPARING BOOKS
FOR THE BINDERY

We must have a properly filled out Blue Bindery Shipment Form with your order at the time we pick it up. Attach an alphabetized, itemized list of the titles included in your order.

All the information you want stamped on your books must be indicated on the title page in pencil as outlined below. Any information you add, such as call numbers, changes in spelling, Authors, etc. must be printed legibly at least ½" away from all edges so that it will not be sewed in or trimmed off.

TITLE:  Indicate the beginning and end of a title as follows:
                                      [ THE COLORADO RIVER 1800 - 1969 ]

A, An or The are normally omitted if they are the initial word of a title unless they are significant to the meaning. We will leave a space between title and date, and between title and sub-title.

Some short, thin books have long titles and sometimes long call numbers. In these cases the Library must give a shortened title. As a guide, there are 10 letters or spaces per inch.

AUTHOR:

Indicate the author as you want it to appear: i.e. John A. Smith
Pseudonyms should also be printed and underlined if you want them stamped and they are noton the title page: i.e. Mark Twain
CLEMENS

If the author is to be only in the call number, do not mark it where it is printed on the title page, but print the name yourself with the call number and underline it.

If the author is to appear in two places, underline the name in both places.

CALL NUMBERS:
Call numbers will not be stamped unless they are underlined on the title page.

Always print your call numbers in the same position on the title page. Make sure to distinguish between capital and lower case letters and to make your numbers distinctive.

Copy numbers will not be stamped unless they are underlined.

CLOTH COLOR: We choose Buckram colors for books randomly. If you want a specific color for a title, write the color number in the lower right corner of the title page.

BOOK SETS: If you are sending a set of books to be bound:

Tie the books together and give stamping information. If a single book from a set is sent without a sample or indicated color, we will bind it in Maroon (M13A).

If you want to match previously bound volumes, send a sample volume and you may pay for a match rub. Be sure the sample is clearly identified as a SAMPLE VOLUME and listed on the Blue Bindery Shipment form.

PICK UP: Have the books packed in regular sized boxes ready for pick up on your scheduled day.
