We must have a properly filled out Blue
Bindery Shipment Form with your order at the time
we pick it up. Attach an alphabetized, itemized list of the Titles and quantities
included in your order. It is important that you follow.our
guidelines for preparing your volumes so that we can process your order more efficiently at
the Bindery.
CHECK ALL ISSUES to
make sure that they are all for the same volume and year. Check to see that
anything to be “bound in” is not damaged.
Arrange the issues in the proper sequence: Place the
first issue published (i.e. January, or Issue #1) on top and the
last issue to be bound in that physical volume on the bottom.
VOLUMES OVER 2” THICK: Although we can adhesive bind
volumes over 2” thick they do not conform to the LBI
Standard and we cannot guarantee them. It is not advisable to oversew
volumes over 3” thick. Thick volumes should be split and bound as two volumes.
Remove all stapled cards and paperclips from the volumes.
This is very important to us because if any staples or paperclips are overlooked
they will damage our paper knife when the volumes are trimmed. Volumes containing
added staples or paperclips will result in additional charges based on the time
necessary to remove them.
Do not apply any glue, tape or labels to the covers or
pages of volumes to be bound. To prevent an uneven build-up in thickness we must
remove tape and labels prior to binding and this will result in additional
charges based on the time necessary to remove them.
TIE THE ISSUES TOGETHER. Use twine or a heavy rubberband
to hold them together.
If you are not an ABLE customer, fill
out a BINDING SLIP for each volume. Be sure
that you include all the necessary information (i.e. cloth and stamping color,
title, author, and for Custom collation, placement of the indexes, tables of
contents, abstracts and supplements) and that the information given is
correct.
If you are sending in a new title (Not previously bound by
your library) be sure to include all necessary instructions, including binding
class, print and cloth colors and stamping instructions.
If you are an ABLE customer, be sure
to transfer your "Lot" via the internet.
Volumes with excessive “dog eared”, torn or missing
pages, or “clipped” pages that require mending or stubbing, will be charged
extra prep time. Extra work, such as gathering will be charged extra time.
If you are sending an incomplete volume with missing
issues or missing pages, one that is water damaged, has missing corners, or is
damaged in any other way, please include instructions saying to “Bind as is”.
We will insert a “Missing Issue” page.
Have the Volumes packed in regular sized boxes ready for pick
up on your scheduled day. Put each category of binding in a separate box and
indicate the contents on the outside. Small quantities of different categories
may be in the same box with the contents indicated on the outside.
