Old books must be examined and sometimes taken apart to
determine the integrity of the original structure and the extent of weakened or
broken sewing. Prices will vary depending on the condition of the individual
book, the number of loose plates, torn pages and other needed repairs.
We can restore your leather or cloth books or rebind them
in a period style binding. We have a large assortment of leather, book cloth,
linen, paper, decorated paper and hand marbled paper to help us match the original
binding when we rebind or restore your books.
We have a well trained, knowledgeable and creative staff
as well as the equipment and materials necessary to meet all your
preservation and restoration needs.
REBACKING:
Replacement of the material covering the spine of a book, extending a short
distance under the old covering material onto the boards. The original spine
covering, if any, is then reattached. If the old spine is missing or unusable,
a new spine will be stamped in a similar style.
