GUIDELINES FOR SMALL EDITION BINDING

Before we can begin work on a project we must have all materials to be provide by the customer and all information concerning the job, including: quantity, trim size, cover material, leaf attachment, headbands, endsheets, foil color, stamping instructions & layout, artwork for dies, and any other special instructions. A workable Dummy Book or set of signatures using the correct paper should be provided by the customer to avoid any misunderstandings and aid in pre-production set-ups.
u SIGNATURES:
Must be printed with grain direction
parallel to the binding edge (vertical on the book)
Should be between 16 and 32 pages
each, depending on the weight of the paper
Must have at least 1/4" sewing lip (signature folded off
center) on the high folio side
Should be folded and gathered into complete books except for
first and last signatures
Must allow for at least 1/8" trim on top, bottom and foredge
of book
u SINGLE SHEETS :
Will be either
oversewn, side sewn or double fan adhesive bound at our
discretion.
Must have grain direction of paper parallel to the binding
edge (vertical on the book)
Must have at least a 1/2"
binding margin (3/4" or 1" is better)
Should allow for at least a 1/8" trim on top, bottom and
front of book
Should have image printed with top & left margins pre-set if
oversized paper is used. This eliminates pre-trimming of the
binding edge before binding
u TIP-INS:
Should be between
signatures. Must be the same height as untrimmed signatures.
u ENDSHEETS PROVIDED BY
CUSTOMER:
Must have
grain direction
parallel to the fold
Must come to us folded or customer will be charged for folding
Must be as large as untrimmed signatures
Should be 70# to 80# text weight or 65# cover weight paper
u ARTWORK FOR STAMPING
DIES:
Must be photo
ready black & white or negatives
Can be enlarged or reduced to your specifications
Must be accompanied by a layout or instructions for placement of images
u STAMPING DIES PROVIDED
BY CUSTOMER:
Must be flat,
foil stamping dies (not printing dies)
Must be deep etched and routed-out for extra depth
Should be made with 1/4" material

the customer. Failure to conform to any of the above guidelines
may result in delays in production and/or extra charges to the
customer.
